
The I-29 Moo University and the Northern Plains Forage Association Forage Webinar Series continues Wednesday, August 20 from 7 to 8:30 pm CDT with a variety of forage topics including an overview of how tar spot effects corn silage, getting forage cutters ready for the field plus a review of USDA programs for forage growers.
Presenters include: Dr. Harkirat Kaur, assistant professor and extension specialist in corn production systems at UW–Madison who will discus tar spot in corn. Tar spot is an emerging foliar disease in the Midwest resulting in devastating yield and nutritive value losses. Her teams research focused on quantifying these losses and exploring management options. Results show that increased tar spot severity caused up to 27 percent dry yield loss in silage corn. Silage corn affected by tar spot also had lower neutral detergent fiber digestibility and predicted milk yield.
